Caligrafia (do grego καλλιγραϕία, καλλι- calli, "belo", e -γραϕία grafía, "escrita") é um termo usado para qualquer tipo de escrita à mão. Mas é tradicionalmente a arte de escrever manualmente os signos (fonéticos ou ideográficos) com as qualidades da elegância, uniformidade e beleza.Calligraphy (from Greek κάλλος kallos "beauty" + γραφή graphẽ "writing") is the art of beautiful writing (Mediavilla 1996: 17). A contemporary definition of calligraphic practice is "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner" (Mediavilla 1996: 18). A style of calligraphy is described as a hand or alphabet (Johnston 1909: Plate 6).
